Forgiveness - a way to happiness

Forgiveness - a way to happiness

Letting go of something painful sometimes become very difficult and seems almost impossible to let go. Actually, why should one let go of whatever happened, some situation, an argument, an unsuccessful deal, a failure?

There is a very popular story, once the teacher asked the students (teacher holding a half-filled glass of water), what is the weight of this glass, a guess? So the students replied with different answers like 200 grams or 300 grams or 100 grams etc.

So the teacher replied, the weight of the glass depends on how long I hold it, after 15 minutes, my hand may ache after 30 minutes, more painful, after an hour, intolerable pain and so. What if I hold it for a day or for a week, well I am sure, you get the idea.

Are we not doing the same thing with ourselves, holding things for weeks, months, years. If our hand can become paralyzed, wouldn't we become paralyzed emotionally and mentally and also burning ourselves from inside. It is affecting our health, our emotional and mental well-being and slowly we starting getting stuck with things, people and situation.

Many successful people have talked about forgiveness

"When a deep injury is done to us, We never heal until we forgive"
Nelson Mandela

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that"
Martin Luther King, Jr

"The weak can never forgive, Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong"
Mahatma Gandhi

Forgiveness is therapeutic in nature, it helps in releasing the hurt and pain, letting go of the things. It heals the inner wound also it is believed that when you forgive others who have hurt you, you are forgiven by those who got hurt by you intentionally or unintentionally, knowingly or unknowingly.

It releases the chain between the two and free from the cages of pain and hurt.
